Andrea Baucon, geologist
Head consultant for Interactive and Multimedia Exhibition Tools
(UNESCO Geopark Naturtejo Meseta Meridional)
Andrea Baucon is a geologist and paleontologist with the UNESCO Geopark Naturtejo Meseta Meridional.
The author is active in scientific research, dedicating himself to the study of fossil and recent traces (ichnology). He is interested in using ichnological data to investigate the interactions between organisms and the environment, especially from a behavioural perspective. He has participated in a number of geological and paleontological missions focusing especially on the fossil records of Portugal, Mongolia and the Alps.
Baucon is also specialized in geotourism and, in particular, in popularizing geological heritage through digital media. He has produced computer animations for documentaries, interactive exhibits and art festivals. Among his works is the interactive exhibition “From Trilobites to Man” (Natural History Museum of Lesvos, Greece), which attracted 35,000 visitors in just three months and has been invited to the UNESCO National Meeting (Portugal).
Baucon also created “Geodelica Trilogy”, a Video Art installation mixing music, fossils, computer-generated graphics, animations, fractal art and petrographic thin sections. This work was hosted at the Boom Festival, one of the most important music festivals in Europe. At present, Baucon is working on the relations between field geotourism and digital media (TERRAGAZE mobile project), and on the Paleozoic trace fossils of the Pramollo Basin.
